Vitamin D and the Sun

Dear Friends,

I have said, for many years, that I did not believe the sun caused skin cancer. I have also insisted that this insanity regarding Vitamin D supplements was out of control.

I focused on these two topics when I was asked to give a talk with medical professionals at a conference in Lake Tahoe 25 years ago. I realized I was not a medical professional and was eyeball-rolled off the stage. Yet the people in the audience who wanted my card and wanted to talk to me were far greater than the line for many of the doctors and other mainline professionals. I have always thought people were smarter than they gave themselves credit for, yet stupid if they blindly listened to a doctor and went against their innate wisdom.

I WAS RIGHT, YAY!

Perhaps ten years later scientific research showed that what I had said was true. Now it is known that UV rays contribute to skin cancer, and indeed may cause it, but the sun is also essential for the health of our organism, especially in the production of Vitamin D for our bones, our blood, and our heart. We are to avoid the strong UV rays. But we are not to avoid the sun altogether.

To keep oneself out of the sun causes an increase in bone weakening, heart problems, and it is proven that it can cause and contribute to the contraction of many autoimmune illnesses. (Don’t believe me. Check out the research for yourself).

This month’s Atlantic Monthly has a very interesting article about Vitamin D and the sun:

The Atlantic Monthly, June 2024, p 12:

“AGAINST SUNSCREEN ABSOLUTISM: Moderate sun exposure can be good for you. Why can’t American experts acknowledge that?”

The article is fascinating and claims studies have been made which assert that lack of sunlight particularly makes us susceptible to MS and several other autoimmune illnesses.

This assertion is worth research for many reasons. The article makes many points. It is important to do your own research, most especially in the Petri Dish called your own body and mind.

I am vocal about having the kind of mind that “knows things,” mostly because I listen to a higher source. This isn’t always true, but I can say with a slight boast that the lectures I gave years ago (Chinese Medicine and Macrobiotics) have proven to compliment my radical assertions at the time. So here is an unpopular assertion

Vitamin D supplements are useless. Not only are they useless, I see them junking up the liver and causing stagnant liver chi, thereby contributing to digestive issues, fertility issues and possibly causing cholesterol to rise. Cholesterol is made in the liver. If the liver can’t metabolize the oil soluble vitamins – A, D, and E - it cannot do its job.

I HATE THE SUN

I hate the sun. I am allergic to it. This has been medically confirmed. I get blisters and rashes and become feverish.

WHAT TO DO

However, since I have potentially weak bones due to my thyroid condition, I try and go in the sun for TEN MINUTES in the early morning and early afternoon, making sure I do not wear sunglasses or a hat (the sunlight must hit the top of your head and enter through your eyes to do
its dance with your pineal gland,)

Then I make sure that my forearms are exposed. This is where the synthesis of Vitamin D from the sun metabolically joins with the epidermis and the magic of a hormone is produced. A hormone which the body can use, not one that can cause congestion and gets stored by the body.

This new medical- marketing crap about checking Vitamin D levels is nonsense. My levels plummeted once when I tried doing what my doctor prescribed and took supplements.

I am getting older and notice some definite changes in my body. I also know my mind is clearer and stronger than ever.
Use your brains and do what you know to do to feel the best you can. BODY IS A REFLECTION OF MIND.

You know what to do.

Love, Gopita
